*Drawing by Emily Dack, Age 6 In case you're wondering what's going on in the extremely graphic drawing above, here is what happened...

I was calmly toasting a waffle for Andrew, thinking longingly about the hot shower and my as-yet-not-made first cup of coffee and how I might somehow combine those two pleasures into one deliciously wonderful experience when a blood-curdling scream came from the 6-year-old who was wrestling with the 4-year-old and the 29-year-old...I mean my husband. What might cause a mother of one to rush over in concern merely caused this syrup-pouring and daydreaming mother of 3 to very idly wonder who had pulled whose hair or fallen off whose back.

But James grabbing Emily up and holding his hand over her mouth made me realize that something besides the normal bedlam had occurred. Sure enough, there were two front teeth on the carpet and blood coming from the 6-year-old's mouth! Lest you think someone punched someone else in the mouth, let me assure you the front teeth were quite loose before the rough-housing! But they were not quite "ready," as evidenced by the blood that scared the you-know-what out of a child who only needs a dot of blood on a knee to launch her into complete panic mode. Daddy wisely found some gauze ("gause" in the drawing above...you know, rhymes with "cause") and had her press it against the gums. Soon she was good as new, proud of the gap in her teeth and her funny little lisp which she is referring to as "an accent." In fact, with this new "accent" she thinks she might actually be able to speak Spanish like her grandpa (a.k.a. Pee-Paw) who is able to read Skippy Jon Jones better than the CD she has. Don't know Skippy Jon Jones? Oh my...a must-read. Run -don't walk!- to the bookstore or Amazon and order one right away. So delightful. And funny as heck. That's what's going on here, Sweets!

That and we're losing an hour. Poo. I hate that.

Off to find a five dollar bill....the Tooth Fairy is expected here tonight and she must leave more than the requisite one dollar per tooth since not one but TWO TEETH were lost in one day!

p.s. James, the guy smiling in the drawing above while his daughter practically bleeds out is really a very nice guy who had his own front teeth knocked out not once but twice in his childhood and was therefore WAY more empathetic about the wailing and carrying-on than this mother ever could have been. I just love that guy!
